China-based Semiconductor Manufacturing International (SMIC) has reported its gross margin slid to 20.8% in the first quarter of 2023 from 32% in the prior quarter, due to lower wafer shipments and capacity utilization. The pure-play foundry saw its capacity utilization rate fall below 70% in the first quarter.
